Avalon Davis: The Summoning!
Avalon. Her name, and, hopefully, the place she had just arrived at. Even if it wasn't, surely the energy of the place would do the work required. When Avalon Davis discovered the marks on her hand, she told her parents that she was going to go backpacking in Europe. She didn't think they'd approve very much of her participation in the Grail War, so she had hidden the true story from them. And while it was true she was currently in Glastonbury, if the summoning went correctly, she'd be heading to Fuyuki in Japan. She never really dreamed she's be getting to travel so much, and especially for this reason!
The American mage hiked around the park in the misty night. The map was easy to read, and she hoped she'd be able to get her ritual started at midnight. She had decided that would be a good time. Avalon (the place) was rumored to shift between dimensions, so performing the summoning ritual at a shift in time would hopefully augment her spell. Her heart pounded as she thought of all the possible servants she might get...what if she even got King Arthur himself?! She tried not to hope for that too hard, but it was a difficult thought to resist.
She finally reached the well house. She moved to the back, hopefully out of sight. She had been keeping an eye on the guard rotation in the park and was pretty sure she could pull her ritual off without being caught. She set down her knapsack and quickly pulled out a skein of cotton yarn. She used this to make her magic circle. She set the piece of the round table she had acquired in the center, and took out a skein of fiber and a drop spindle. She ran the specially prepared fiber through the hook of the spindle and dropped it, beginning her chant:
Metallic and dark grey thread ran through it as it began to spin, falling as she spoke.
Let Silver and Steel be the essence
She dropped the spindle further, onto a stone slab she had readied just outside the circle
Let Stone and the Archduke of contracts be the foundation!
Black fibers now ran through the spindle
Let Black be the color I pay tribute to! Let rise a wall against the wind that falls!
Four different fibers were woven in now. Green, Red, Blue, and Yellow.
Let the four cardinal gates close!
Let the three forked road from the crown reaching into the kingdom rotate!
The spindle turned faster and faster, augmented by her wind magic. It danced and bounced as gold, white and red thread ran through it.
Let it be filled. Again. Again. Again. Again.
With each proclamation of 'again' the threads pulsed in a lunar white light.
Let it be filled fivefold for every turn, simply breaking asunder with every filling!
Wind whipped through the trees and tossed her hair and clothes, but the spindle hit the ground hard and remained in it's place, filling up unnaturally fast. The fibers stayed lit, and grew brighter and brighter.
From the Seventh Heaven, attended to by three great words of power,
come forth from the ring of restraint, protector of the holy balance!
She threw her arms up to the skies as she shouted upward, the skein and spindle moving independently, fueled by her magic. It flashed and spun off into the circle. Another flash and a great gust of wind burst from the lines she had made, knocking the mage back.
She stumbled upright, and looked to the center of where her circle had been. The bright light had faded, her fibers had disappeared, and in the middle of what was the circle stood...

Re: Avalon Davis: The Summoning!
A knight, a true knight, in brilliantly white armor. The helm had two horns curling upwards on either side, and the fit was tight but shapeless, shielding every possible inch of skin from enemy blows. The figure's voice was rich and confident, regal even. They did not remove their helmet - they didn't move their hands from the sword resting on their hip at all. The summoned Servant knelt before her, bowing their head.
"I am Saber. It will be an honor to win by your side."

Avalon stared agape at the knight. They were everything she had imagined a knight would be. She took a knee before them, wanting to be on the same level as their brilliance. "I-it's an honor to have you! Truly!," She urged the knight to stand with her. "My name is Avalon. Avalon Davis. What's yours?" she smiled joyfully at the servant.

Behind their visor, Saber's eyes narrowed. Avalon...
"I am Saber. That is all you need to know, my lady." They rose gracefully and looked around. "Have you yet made a plan of attack? Defense?"

"I haven't! But we aren't in the city where the battle will take place yet. And unfortunately it's a place I've never been. I intended to form a solid plan once I got there." she picked up her knapsack, "In any case, we can't leave here for another few hours yet. That's when my flight leaves. If you would takes spirit form and just follow me for now, that'd be great!" she jogged off, knowing the flashes of light probably attracted some attention.

Re: Avalon Davis: The Summoning!
Saber didn't move, didn't shift or disappear. "I don't like taking on that form. I need my feet on the ground."
With a sweep of their hand, their armor turned into a white casual suit with a red necktie. Their face was still shadowed by a wide-brimmed hat. When Avalon tried to look into it, memories of features formed and disappeared, never the same thing twice. Was it magic forcing her to forget, or was the face really so plain?
"If there is a problem, I am perfectly capable of managing any vehicle myself." They followed Avalon on foot.

"Yeah that's perfect! I didn't know you could do that!" she made it to her rental car, she and her new servant easily avoiding the park security. She drove straight to her hotel. It was a cheap but comfortable one. She didn't know what to say to this mysterious servant. They didn't seem much for talking anyway, so the drive was rather silent. Eventually they were nice and secure in the hotel room. She flopped onto the bed, "Make yourself comfy!"

Saber sat in the chair next to the bed, one leg crossed over the other. "Modest... but inconspicuous. Not a bad choice. How much do you know about the other participants?"

Re: Avalon Davis: The Summoning!
"Nothing yet. But I can guess that some people from the big three will be involved. Tohsaka, Einzbern...well maybe not Matou. They're line kinda died out I heard. The Tohsakas have a mansion in Fuyuki, which is where we'll be heading tomorrow and the Einzberns live in a castle outside of that. The Einzberns are really good at alchemy and homunculi. The Tohsakas are pretty typical for a mage family. They know a bunch of different magic." the mage sat up and shrugged, "Other than that, my research didn't uncover much. You don't really know who you're fighting until you uh...fight them." she chuckled.

There was a smile in Saber's voice. "On that, we can agree. Have you ever been to Fuyuki before?"

"No, but I bet I won't be the only one. It's not uncommon for the grail to select masters from all over, so it shouldn't be too much of a disadvantage. Obviously the Tohsaka's will have a good deal of advantage since they live in Fuyuki, so it's their home turf." she rooted around in her suitcase and pulled out a folded town map. "Now, I don't know where the leylines are, but here's a map of the city at least, if you wanna check it out." she spread it open on the bed between them so they could both see.

"Ah, thank you." They looked over the map, absorbing the lines and landmarks. "To be honest, though, I don't mind forcing fate's hand. This should be quite the thrilling adventure." They rested their chin on their folded hands, pleased.

"I'm excited too! A little scared because well...death is a possibility...but honestly, what a way to die! I mean, even if I don't achieve my goal, I'll go down in history for fighting in this war. Honestly I'd rather pass away doing something like this than of old age or some disease." she smiled at her servant, "So, what's your wish?"

The knight tapped their finger on their knuckle in thought. "My birthright, and the chance to prove it. That is all. What about yours?"

Re: Avalon Davis: The Summoning!
"Well..." she pretended to be considering, but she was trying to use her new clue to figure out who her servant was. If she assumed her catalyst worked, then it shouldn't be any of the other knights. They wouldn't feel their birthright was an issue. That means, it was Arthur himself! or...Mordred? Mordred would definitely have more of a chip about their birthright than Arthur would...in that case...what could she say about her wish? She was taking too long. She needed to say something. " Look...I think I know who you are. Like, if my catalyst worked...there's only a few people you could be. This might piss you off, but I want you to know that I don't hate you and I'm willing to work with you on this. Uh, I'm rambling, sorry! Anyway, my wish, was to help King Arthur or one of his knights gain the holy grail. I just want to help them finish their quest." she jiggled her leg nervously, hoping her servant wouldn't be too upset with her, if they were who she thought they were.

Re: Avalon Davis: The Summoning!
Saber fell quiet, mulling this over. "If you were to accept me as one of the Knights, would you accept my wish as a holy Quest? Would you let me take my rightful place?"

Re: Avalon Davis: The Summoning!
Avalon smiled, "Yeah! I think...under better circumstances, Arthur would have accepted you into his family. And if he wouldn't have, he would have been in the wrong, because that's not right to do to you. You had a pretty bad break. It's not your fault it happened how it did. You have as much a right to the grail as he would, or the other knights would, in my book!"

Re: Avalon Davis: The Summoning!
There was a near-smile, faint and sad.
"Thank you. It's more complicated than, you know, than anyone is aware of, but... Thank you. All I want to do is have a fair chance to obtain what is rightfully mine, what I was born to be. If you can accept that, then I think we can work together very nicely... Avalon." Her support drew some of the sting out of the name.

Avalon breathed a sigh of relief, "I'm glad we got that out of the way," she chuckled and stood, "I'm gonna take a shower and get some sleep okay? Tomorrow we'll catch the plane and things will get REALLY interesting." she winked at her servant as she headed into the bathroom.

Re: Avalon Davis: The Summoning!
Saber's shoulders slowly dropped, relaxed. They stood in the mirror and raised their arms, removing the helmet from their head. They wiped sweat away from their brow, looking over their reflection in the mirror. After a few deep breaths, they placed the helmet back over their face, reassured and confident. Interesting could be... a good thing.

Re: Avalon Davis: The Summoning!
After her shower, a peaceful nap was had before heading out at 6:00am on a flight to Fuyuki, Japan. Avalon did her best to fill Mordred in on what she knew of Japanese culture, and gave her the nick-name DeeDee in case she ever needed to get her attention. Eventually they arrived in Japan, went through the usual airport checks, and stepped out into Fuyuki!
