Plot Summary (HGW Aftermath)

--Japan--

*Holed up in a hotel a safe distance from Fuyuki, Aaron passes out while A-san arranges things. He calls Avalon, who tells him where to meet the group. Soon after, Marchosias rejoins the group and takes human form.
*A short while later, the two set out to join the main group in Hawaii.

--Hawaii--

*The group arrive at a beach house owned by Mari's associates, where they unwind from the havoc of the Holy Grail War.
*A-san arrives not long after with Aaron and tells the group that Ozymandias and Lancer are up to no good. They don't know Lancer's identity, however, so they'll have to head to Egypt to take care of Ozy while they still can.
*After everyone has rested up, and Aaron and A-san introduce themselves to everyone, A-san finally reveals his identity as Marisbury Animusphere, a member of an extremely wealthy mage family working on space-time technology.
*Marisbury joined the Holy Grail War to wish for money to fund his research. In lieu of having won the Grail, Lazarus agrees to use the knowledge he obtained from the Root to help Marisbury stabilize his technology, so that he may prove one of his theories and obtain grants to finish his research.
*As Caster and his familiar study Lazarus' notes on the Grail, Yui discovers that one of Phillipus' old colleagues was actually Zouken Matou centuries ago, once known as Zolgen Makiri. They then also find out Mari's birthday is tomorrow.
*Yui quickly arranges for them to throw a party for Mari, who receives a beautiful furisode from her family. Avalon also asks Mari out on a date.

*The next morning, Marisbury offers to buy catalysts from anyone who still has theirs, so he can finish his own research in summoning Heroic Spirits.
*Cleopatra interrupts and says she felt Ayaka trying to use a Command Spell, but wasn't able to finish it. It turns out she went missing and no one can find her.
*With nothing else to do, the group heads off to Egypt to search for Ozymandias. They arrange for Julian, Kirei, and Atalanta to meet them there.

--Egypt--
*When the group arrives, Cleopatra is overwhelmed to see the Pyramids of Giza still standing, and is happy to finally be home. She shows the group where Ozymandias' throne used to be, but can't find anything after days of searching.
*After a few weeks, Yui discovers evidence of many girls in the area having gone missing. Finally, a golden beam appears around the area they were searching, beckoning the Servants.

*When they arrive, Ozy summons his great temple complex, the Ramesseum Tentyris.

*Showing himself to be immune to damage inside the Ramesseum, and all the other Servants having their Noble Phantasms sealed, they struggle against the sphinxes set on them. He also fires a beam from his Dendera Light that nearly kills Atalanta, though Blue Caster manages to save both of them just in time by sacrificing Marchosias.
*During the battle, Manaka's voice echoes around them, saying she knew Saber would come back to her. She stole Ozymandias from Arnaud Vial, and says she has Ayaka and is trying to remake the Grail.
*Lazarus slips inside the temple and begins attacking the Dendera Light, while Ozymandias tries to stop him. As Lazarus is now immortal, Ozy is unable to stop him, and soon enough Berserker and Aaron barge in to finish the job and destroy the Dendera Light.
*The seals on their Phantasms undone, Atalanta quickly uses Phoebus Catastrophe to wipe out the spinxes and lions. Cleopatra tries to bind him with her own Phantasm, Uraeus Astrape, but fails. However, it slows him down long enough to get hit with Excalibur, which kills him and destroys the Ramesseum.

*After Ozymandias dies, Artoria leads the group to a tunnel leading underground. She goes in alone to confront Manaka.
*She finds Manaka in front of a giant cauldron of black muck, with a hundred dead bodies hanging from the ceiling. She also has Ayaka and Illyasviel captive, saying she needs them to remake the Holy Grail.
*She says she is going to use her Grail to summon the Beast of Revelation, under the unknown Beast class. It will grant her unlimited mana and allow her to grant Saber's wish of restoring Britain.
*Artoria is horrified, and demands that she stop, but Manaka flaunts her power by showing off Ayaka's stolen Command Spells. She swiftly orders Cleopatra to kill herself, mortifying the group still waiting above ground.
*Manaka tells Saber to make a contract with her again, or she will kill the rest of her friends one by one. Artoria agrees, which excites Manaka, but as the girl approaches, Artoria fatally impales her. Manaka dies telling Artoria she loves her.
*Artoria quickly frees Ayaka and Illyasviel, then destroys the cavern with Excalibur. She returns above ground having been broken by the experience, and the group returns to the hotel.

*Back at the hotel, Artoria struggles with her demons over having let the situation with Manaka get so far, while still feeling guilty over killing her. Avalon helps allay some of her worries.
*Yui tells Lazarus what she heard in the cavern; Zouken had turned Ayaka into a form of the Lesser Grail. They decide the time to deal with Zouken is coming soon.

*After a week of combing the news, Yui narrows down the possibilities of where Lancer might be active.
*Deducing that he is likely Vlad the Impaler, they decide to head to Romania and track him down.

--Romania--
*The group lands in Bucharest and heads toward Vlad's former territory, quickly seeing that something dastardly is afoot, with mind-controlled soldiers patrolling Vlad's castle.
*As the group approaches, Lancer appears and demands to know why they are standing in his territory. Lazarus tries to reason with him, but Lancer adamantly tells them to fuck off. The group decides to attack.
*After dodging a hit from Atalanta's Noble Phantasm, he uses his own, Kazikili Bey. A field of stakes sprout up from the ground, striking all the Masters and Servants, though the Masters are well-protected by barriers.
*Caster uses his own Noble Phantasm, Ars Almadel Salomonis, which misses, but Excalibur hits Vlad shortly afterward, taking him own decisively. They tend to their wounded and head back to the hotel.
*With Caster's identity as King Solomon now revealed, Phillipus talks to him about his work and his former life. Solomon muses on how much magic has deteriorated over time, and he's disappointed that humanity has not come farther since his death, but Phillipus tries to reassure him that humanity is destined to reclaim greatness.

*Later that night, Darius has a dream of Aaron's life, about a night when Julian forcibly restrained Aaron and let many strangers have his way with him, assuring Aaron in the morning that it had been a nightmare.
*When Aaron wakes up, Darius struggles to communicate with him, but manages to get across that Aaron should not let himself be a slave to another man. Aaron denies that he's being manipulated, but tells Darius he will try to gain a feel for the situation.

*The Grail crew decide the time has come to deal with Zouken. They travel back to Japan and align with Mari's Yakuza crew to storm the mansion, while Philipus and Julian prepare to operate on Ayaka to destroy the worms in her own body.
*Kirei leads the strike team into the Matou mansion, but falls for an illusion, while the real Zouken attacks Mari and attempts to drain her blood. Artoria, however, binds him, allowing Kirei to exorcise him.
*Meanwhile, the worms in Ayaka's body go apeshit, but with tons of magical spells and anesthetic, they are able to keep her alive while they extract and kill all the worms, finally killing Zouken.

*Upon returning to Hawaii, Marisbury takes the potion he needs from Lazarus (to turn Solomon human), and departs.
*A few days later, Darius--now having his Mad Enhancement suppressed by Lazarus--confronts Aaron about Julian.
*Aaron admits he's scared to get to the bottom of the dream he had about Julian having him tied up and gangraped. They enlist Philipus to examine his memories, who determines that the dream was indeed a real event.
*Aaron finally confronts Julian and demands answers. Julian only says that he's always enjoyed hurting Aaron, but still wants him to stay. Aaron says he needs time.

*Soon, everyone goes their separate ways. Kirei and Atalanta move back to his home in Italy, where they have children. Avalon and Mari move in together. Lazarus and Yui move back to the rebuilt Tohsaka mansion and continue to research.
*Aaron decides not to return to Julian. Instead, he grows close with Philipus over the years.

*Marisbury continues to work on his experiments, but they eventually lose contact with him.
*Finally, around ten years after the end of the Grail War, they receive invitations to come to Marisbury's organization, Chaldea. The group makes their way to Switzerland and venture up into the Alps.

*At Chaldea, they are greeted by Lev Lainur, who informs them that Marisbury committed suicide several years ago, leaving his daughter in charge. The rest of the crew knew almost nothing about Lazarus and co., or the Grail War he participated in.
*Lev informs them that they've detect that the human race will soon go extinct, and enlists their help in averting the disaster.

--Chaldea Security Organization--
*Lev introduces them to Chaldea's core technology: They've created a miniature replica of Earth that they use to monitor the past and future.
*They've detected that civilization will disappear in the year 2016, but don't know the cause, aside from an "unobservable area" around the time and location of the Fifth Holy Grail War.
*Thus they've assembled teams of Masters, that they will use to summon Servants. Using Rayshift technology, they will send people into the past to investigate and resolve the "singularity"--a period of alternate history overwriting the normal timeline.

*As they are in a hurry, they are introduced to a woman calling herself Leonardo Da Vinci, a Servant summoned by Chaldea. She brings them to the briefing to meet Olgamarie Animusphere, Marisbury's daughter. They also meet a young staffer, Mashu Kyrielight.
*After Olgamarie declares them all to just be her tools, Aaron almost instantly insults her and pisses her off. She removes Aaron from the roster and kicks the rest of the group off the first mission.

*When they get back to their rooms, they meet the chief of the medical staff, Romani Archiman, as well as a small cat creature called Fou.
*Romani explains a little bit about how Olga took over as chief after Marisbury's death, and she didn't handle either one well. Even so, she's still a bad person, he says.
*Da Vinci takes them to summon their Servants. Yui summons Frankenstein again, while Lazarus summons Nikola Tesla. Chiara summons Astolfo, and Chiaki summons Medea.
*The group returns to their rooms and waits.

*The time comes to investigate the Singularity surrounding Fuyuki. Unfortunately, Dr. Roman informs the group that Olga has excluded the Fuyuki gang from the mission because she's still pissed about Aaron. The crew decides to chill in the lunchroom, while Lazarus helps in the control room.
*As they wait for the mission to begin, there is a sudden explosion in the control room. Lazarus awakens after regenerating to find the whole central room in flames.
*The group arrives to help, finding Lev and Olga missing and Da Vinci grievously injured. They can't see Mashu anywhere in sight, and the other candidate Masters are dying quickly.
*As they try to save the Masters, the Rayshifting process automatically starts, sending those of the group selected as Masters into the past.

--Fuyuki--
*Avalon, Mari, and Aaron--with their Servants Phillipus, Artoria, and Darius--awaken in Fuyuki, which is burning. Mashu is with them, having somehow transformed into a Servant.
*They soon run into Olga, who rayshifted with them, and the group heads toward the Tohsaka mansion. They find it destroyed, and many of their past selves dead in the wreckage, which they don't take well.
*Mari takes the opportunity to now summon Mordred and fill her in on what's going on. Artoria and Mordred notice that Mashu's shield resembles a symbol of the Round Table.
*Mashu explains that as she lay dying in the control room, she fused with a Heroic Spirit, who left her its powers before disappearing. She doesn't know the Spirit's identity, though, and can't use his Noble Phantasm.

*The group moves through the burning city looking for survivors. Iskandar and Medea suddenly appear, though both of them look strangely weak and blackened. They say they're on orders to kill the team and attack.
*During the fight, Semiramis (the first Assassin of the Fifth Holy Grail War) appears to help fight them.
*She explains what happened:

*On the first night of the War, when everyone was meeting at the Tohsaka mansion, there was a sudden attack that killed all the humans present.
*After that, Saber (Mordred) was blackened and went on a rampage, defeating and reconstructing every other Servant except for Semiramis, who hid.
*Mordred has spent the time since searching the city for something.

*The group decides she must be looking for the Greater Grail, and head in that direction. They encounter a few more shadow Servants on the way, and finally enter the cave.
*Mordred Alter is there, explaining she's trying to use the Grail to fulfill her wish and travel back to challenge the sword in the stone. However, because she's in a Singularity, it won't let her leave.
*They do battle, and the good Mordred defeats the bad Mordred and take a rainbow-colored crystal from her. With that the Singularity appears to be resolved, and they prepare to Rayshift back.

*Before they leave, Lev suddenly appears, revealing himself to be behind the explosion in Chaldea. He also reveals that only Olga's consciousness Rayshifted with them, and she lost her body.
*He opens a rift in space-time, connecting the cavern with Chaldea and showing them that Chaldeas itself had turned bright red.
*Lev explains that the extinction of humanity predicted by Chaldeas has just come to pass; they are now the last humans left in the world.
*For added kicks, he throws Olga's form into Chaldeas and kills her. He says that humanity is doomed to disappear because they've disappointed "his king." He disappears as the group Rayshifts back to Chaldea.

--Chaldea--
*Da Vinci welcomes the group back to Chaldea. The other selected Masters are comatose, but alive and being looked after.
*She says that what Lev said was true; the rest of humanity is gone, and Chaldea is only protected by a field that offsets them somewhat in time. But, not all hope is lost.
*Shiva has detected seven Singularities in human history. Their existence risks humanity's existence.
*However, if they Rayshift back into history and correct the seven Singularities, it should correct the timeline and restore the human race.

*They have all been through a lot, so Da Vinci tells them to get some rest. Once they've had time to adjust to everything that's happened, they can begin the missions.
*The Grand Orders--the missions to restore humanity.
