Clara walked the spacious office suite, ensuring she had all of the equipment she had been ordering for her base over the past decade or so. She was also checking the space's defences, which so far were quite satisfactory. She considered creating a silencing barrier, as the neighboring suite was a functioning office. The current barrier blocked all evidence of her room's presence, including sound, but it did nothing to deaden the busy, noisy business on the other side of the door. The ringing phones were the worst. However, at the moment, she had other matters to attend to.

"Are you here?" She was fairly sure she knew the answer, but she thought it best to be polite and not make assumptions. She had seen little of her Archer since landing in Japan. "It would seem my office is secured. I suppose now would be as good a time as any to begin formulating a strategy." She walked toward a handsome oaken desk situated near the corner of the room. The walls there were floor-to-ceiling glass, with one window facing south, the other east. This high up, much of Shinto was visible, and on a clearer day than today, one might even be able to see into the surrounding country-side. She sat in the hunter green leather chair and pulled a handful of maps and a list of names from the bottom drawer on the right of the desk. From the top center drawer she procured a legal pad and a pen. She was loathe to admit she was at a disadvantage; she was not overlook familiar with the city, and even less with the culture. She hoped perhaps her servant would be able to bridge the gap.

Clara walked to the windows overlooking Shinto and pushed slightly on the glass. It opened like a door, and a hallway suddenly came into view, connecting her room to the hotel across the gap. She smiled.

She stepped out into the hallway, the walls, cieling, and floor all made from glass. Birds flew past, oblivious to the invisible passage and the two women inside. Cars drove down the street under them.

This was the only way into and out of her base, visible and accessible only from either end. She made it to the other hotel, and pushed on the glass before her, creating another door and stepping into another empty hotel room. From here, she exited the room and made her way down the hotel's stairway.

"For now, we should focus on reconnaissance," she said, going back over the strategy they had discussed earlier. "As long as the sun is up, we should be safe from other Servants. That will give us ample time to locate the other Masters and make a plan of attack."

She reached the ground floor and stepped out into the hallway, casting a wary glance in both directions. Empty. Satisfied, she started walking to the exit.

Just as she started walking, though, Archer suddenly felt the presence of another Servant.

Clara seemed to sense it, too. "Do you--"

Her body jerked. For a second, her eyes bulged, staring at the Servant that had just appeared at the end of the hallway. A tall man with a skull mask and obsidian black skin.

Then her eyes dropped to the hilt of the dagger now embedded in her chest.

The servant eyed the dagger in her master's chest. It was clearly fatal. Pulling out the dagger would be of no use, even moving faster than usual she would bleed out before they reached the nearest medical facility. "I'm sorry. Perhaps we will meet in the afterlife..." Archer pulled out the dagger and slit her master's throat. Though she was weak, she still felt a connection...still felt her master deserved a quick death. Athena then turned her attention to the servant down the hall, dagger still in hand. "I have no quarrel with you. Without a master, we don't have to be enemies. Take me to your master. I need refuge, and I'm sure you would rather use my skills then snuff them, just as I would rather do with you." Despite trying to make peace, Archer remained vigilant and ready to attack. She was at a disadvantage, but hoped there would be no more blood on her first day in this foreign land.

Assassin let out a deep chuckle and pushed the mask higher up onto his face.

"You must be joking. Only one of us may touch the Grail. Why should I help you in any way?" He slinked slowly backward. "Without a Master, the world will drain you of mana until you are nothing."

He laughed, and moved as though to disappear back into the shadows, when he suddenly froze. He cocked his head to one side, as though a voice were speaking into his ear.

"Master? What are you--?"

He stood still for several more seconds, then abruptly sprung into motion, whipping another knife toward Archer.

Clash Result: TIE

Atalanta fires an arrow at Assassin, and the two weapons meet in midair, deflecting to the side harmlessly.

Atalanta attacks again. She will beat this servant if she cannot join him.

Clash Result:  RIDER WINS [20 damage]

Assassin doesn't move fast enough.  Atalanta's arrow streaks in and pierces his chest.  The force of the weapon is enough to throw the Servant's body back into the wall.

Assassin
HP: 0/20
MP: 30/30

"K-Kkuugh..." he groaned, blood pouring from his chest.  "Kirei, you bastard..."

He slumped to the floor, as his body began to slowly dissolve into spirit particles.  Within a few seconds, he had totally evaporated, leaving only Archer's bloodied arrow.

Atalanta stalked over and collected her arrow, out of habit more than necessity. She would find this Kirei. She scanned the area with her eyes and her magic, trying to see if any more masters or servants were nearby.

As Archer scanned, she immediately detected magic close by: close, but faint. Just outside the window, a crow sat on a lamppost, looking down at her. Its eyes glowed a faint red, the glow of a familiar.

The magic aura around the crow suggested that it wanted Archer to notice it. It waited to make sure the Servant caught sight of it, then took wing to head southward down the street.

Atalanta caught the red eyes of the corvid and watched as it locked it's gaze with hers for a moment before flying away. She followed it, carefully. She would keep her ears, eyes, and aura open. This could be a boon or a trap. She kept her physical being invisible as she followed the familiar. Though she couldn't disguise the magic emanating from her, she could at least make it harder for her possible enemy to spot her by normal means. If she must fight again, she was certainly ready.

As Archer followed the crow southward she suddenly felt another magical or somewhere to her east. It was another servant somewhere in downtown Shinto. The crow however kept flying south out of the city altogether. Which to follow?

Atalanta considered the matter carefully. As confident as she felt, she had a finite amount of time to find a new master. Not to mention, if she followed the crow and it ended up being a trap, she would need all her energy. She decided to ignore the servant, and keep following the crow.

The crow continued south, leading Archer out of the city and into the countryside. Before her, a trail leading out of the city wound up a hill to a lonely church.
