Mordred seemed to almost deflate. They shuffled over to Artoria and plopped their head down on her shoulder with a whine. "Fa~ther, I'm ti~red..."

Phillipus brought out the usual round of potions and salves. "You'd better get sipping, then. Time is of the essence."

Artoria grumbled a little. "Pull yourself together. Our biggest challenge is just ahead. We can't afford to let our guards down."

They nodded, lifting their head and humming in agreement. Artoria's reaction, however cold, was hardly surprising.

"So, any tactical ideas?" The cork squeaked when they pulled it out of the glass flask and knocked back the healing mixture, shuddering slightly once it was down. "Phillipus, you can make a barrier to drain her mana, right?" The heavy grimoire fluttered to the right page of incantations as if of its own volition.

"Yes, but I'll have to start now if I want it to be substantial enough to help. Hopefully the Baron's forces can provide adequate backup."

Artoria thought to herself for a moment. "It's only Jeanne and her Caster now, whoever it might be. If Gilles' army can keep the dragons at bay, I'm confident we can end this quickly. Press her hard, but avoid using Noble Phantasms and possibly triggering her own."

"If I may," Mashu cut in. "It may be a long shot, but if there is any way to end this without bloodshed, we should take it. I don't know if it's possible to reach her heart at this point, but if not, I'm still ready to fight."

Edouard came up to them sheepishly. "I don't think I can be of use to you guys much longer without Saber. If it's alright with you, I'd like to return home."

"Yeah, of course," Aaron patted him on the shoulder, "just be careful on your way home."

Phillipus nodded. "Perhaps a small retinue of scouts or privates from the Baron's company can be spared to escort you. Good luck."

Edouard smiled and shook their hands. "I wish I could repay you. Thanks for all your help. And good luck in the castle."

As the soldiers regrouped, Gilles assigned some soldiers to escort the man home. Meanwhile, Prelati approached them, smiling up at the ramparts.

"Are we ready to go inside?"

Phillipus leveled a look at Prelati that was calm, but frosty at the edges. "As we'll ever be, if Marshal de Rais is prepared."

He nodded excitedly. "He and his men will keep holding off the dragons. I'll come with you in case I can help with the demons." He gestured to the gates. "After you!"

As they had spoken to Edouard Avalon made her way over to Gilles, "Hey so about what my companion mentioned earlier...are you just in a desperate spot or do you have some other purpose for sending Prelati in there or...?"

"Well, our scouts saw creatures in the castle similar to what Prelati usually works with. He knows how they work; I figured his expertise will come in handy."

"On one hand, yeah, on the other...he might use the demons for himself? Did you think of that? From a purely tactical perspective he could slow us down at best, and risk the mission at worst..."

Gilles seemed to hesitate, looking from her to Prelati and back. "I... I don't think he would do that. Defeating the dragon witch is in everyone's best interest. After you took down that horrible white dragon, it'd be foolish to turn against you anyway."

"Look, we don't need people like him to help us. Just because the world is in danger doesn't mean we throw out all of our morals, don't you think? I feel that his help will be negligible."

He was silent again for a long time, staring at Prelati's back and chewing his tongue. Finally, he said, "Well... If you feel that strongly about it, I'll keep him by my side. After everything I've seen so far, I doubt the demons will pose much problem to you."

"Thanks. And if you can, I'd avoid socializing with him in the future. Good luck!" She smiled and patted him on the back and headed back over to her group, sending Prelati back over to Gilles.

Prelati looked disheartened, and sulked back over to his friend, walking off with him to organize the troops.

Artoria smiled at Avalon. "Thank you. It's a relief not to have him lurking behind us." She looked at the others. "Is everyone ready?"

There were nods all around, but not before Aaron gave Avalon a high five.

Mari gave Avalon a quick squeeze of approval before getting in line. "Let's do the damn thing!"

The group entered the castle warily, sensing the presence of the two Servants inside. The halls were eerily quiet and empty; there was no sign of the demons Gilles had mentioned. There were only the slaughtered bodies of the castle's guards and residents.

No one and nothing rose to stop them as they made their way to the throne room. The doors to the throne room were open, with the bodies of ten guards strewn about the threshhold.

Inside, there was Jeanne sitting on the king's throne, her legs up on the arm of the throne. Her flag and sword were already in hand, but she made no moves to attack them when they entered.

The second Servant was close by, but not in sight. They seemed to be hanging back in the shadows behind the throne for now.

Jeanne had no smug grin on her face this time. "You beat six of my Servants to get here. I admit, I'm impressed."

"Neat!" Aaron remarked. He removed his bracelet, and Darius went after her.

Turn 1

Servant Initiative

A: Jeanne
B: Mordred, Darius
C: Paracelsus, Artoria
D: Mashu, Caster

Jeanne's feet were on the ground by the time Darius took his first step.

"Right to it, eh? Fine with me!" She dove forward and stabbed with her sword.
