Aaron raised an eyebrow. These people clearly weren't very good at personal interactions. He and Phillipus helped Mari and Avalon to the briefing room.

The group shuffled down a series of hallways and came to the central room of CHALDEAS, the same one that Lazarus and Yui had been overlooking. The miniature Earth floated overhead as Mashu led them to a row of chairs and desks that overlooked the main floor.

All those seated wore the same uniforms that they had been given, white with black buckles. There was an assortment of people from all over the globe, but they all seemed to be between 18 and 30. Some were nervous, feeling incredibly out of place, with others were smiling confidently.

Standing before them was another girl who couldn't have been much older than the one who had escorted them there.

She seemed to glare at them icily as they took their seats. Once they had, she cleared her throat.

"We're a little late, but it looks like everyone's here. Welcome to the covert organization, Chaldea. I'm your director, Olgamarie Animusphere. Each and every one of you here possess a unique set of talents, and have been hand picked from all around the globe. Each of you display aptitude in performing Spiritual Dives, as well as the possession of Magical Circuits, making you Master candidates. Some of you may find this hard to believe, but I assure you it is the truth. You are a new batch of Magi with the unprecedented mix of scientific and magical aptitude alignments.

However, this does not make any one of you special in any way. You now stand where everyone else has started from, as an inexperienced rookie. Keep that in mind. Doubly so for those dispatched from the Association! Make no assumptions that you are any better. Chaldea is under my jurisdiction. Your birth status and past achievements do not matter here. First and foremost, my orders are absolute. Your opinions are not needed. Complaints will not be entertained. You are nothing more than tools to be used at my disposal!
"

Olga turned a furious gaze on Aaron. She stomped down from the stage to his row. "What is your name?"

Mari looked the girl up and down, then turned around as if to walk out the door. Phillipus sighed and grabbed her shoulder, turning her around.

"Come come, we mages can be over-confident and exclusive. I can't fault the sentiment, even if the delivery was... Brusque."

"I'm Aaron and I'm definitely not your god damned tool." he said, extending his hand for a shake with a smirk. Avalon facepalmed in her seat. She was too nauseous for this.

She ignored his hand and raised her wrist with a small computer on it. She pulled up his info on a holographic screen. "Ah! I see!" She looked at the the rest of Aaron's group. "You're the group from Fuyuki. So, you think because you fought in a real Grail War you've got some kind of god complex! Well, I've got news for you. You're certainly not better than anyone else here, and as long as you're under this roof, you'll do as I say!" Her face glowed red in anger. "If you don't like, you can leave!" She pointed adamantly toward the door, then smiled wryly. "Though you're not gonna find a train back down the mountain for a week. Maybe you'd rather hike?"

"See? It's simply Miss Animusphere's way of separating the self-inflated from the reliable. We're all here to save our home from devastation, so let's have a seat and hear her out, shall we?" Phillipus smiled calmly, although his gaze was particularly pointed.

"No, I think because I'm a person who exists that I deserve a modicum of respect. Not a lot, but a modicum. I know people from the mages association can be douchebags, trust me, but I'm not going to roll over and kiss your ass just because you say I should. I'm here as a favor to you and humanity. Everyone in this room is, no matter how up their own asses they are. You'll get better results from them if you don't treat them like objects. Trust me on this."

"What an absolute idiot. What kind of people are they sending me?" She stomped back toward the stage. "You'll do as I say, or you can wait for the train home. Now, I'll continue for those of you who know your place."

Olga froze stiff, looking for a moment that she might have been petrified. With an almost blank stare, she brought Aaron's profile back up on her computer. With a quick flick of her finger, she deleted him from the roster.

"Get out."

Phillipus buried his face in his hands, Mari slackjawed. He had to do something... Probably... Didn't he...? He gave an uneasy smile.

"Miss Animusphere, is there any way I could discuss this with you?"

"That doesn't mean I'm leaving. Besides, you might change your mind. However if you want someone who will kiss your ass, I can definitely recommend my ex husband. He's older than most of the people here I think, but in extremely good health!" he smiled brightly at her, seemingly unbothered by the situation any longer.

Re: The Common Sense of Man

Post by Damascus on Tue May 02, 2017 12:35 am

Her anger seemed to have settled into ice. After a long silence, she finally said, "Suit yourself. Just do us all a favor and keep your mouth shut."

She got back up on the stage to continue her briefing, though her tone was noticeably icy for the remainder of her briefing.

"It is critical for you to understand our, no, all of humanity's current condition.

Chaldea has achieved countless breakthroughs to date, such as the magical device used to monitor the past, Laplace. Chaldeas, which displays a model of Earth's environment. Completion of the Near-Future Observation Lens, Shiva. Heroic Spirit summoning system, the Fate System, and the launch of the Spiritron Calculation Engine, Trismegistus.

With the help of this technology, we at Chaldea have observed humanity's progress hundreds of years into the future. We are not predicting the future, merely observing it. Just like observing the constellations, Chaldea has been watching the future. Whatever the future holds, our job is to ensure that even hundreds of years later, humanity will continue progressing.
"

She unfolded a teacher's pointer and pointed it toward the floating miniature Earth.

"This is Chaldea's greatest achievement to date--- Created with the use of advanced magical theories, a projection Earth's environmental model, this is Chaldeas. This is the projection of this planet's soul, a miniature Earth. Because of the difference in stage and scale, we are unable to observe humanity's perception and knowledge. But everything on the surface, the land, the brightly lit cities. Those can be observed through Shiva.

Its current state is set to reflect hundreds of years from now. This Chaldeas may very well be the future of Earth itself. As long as the light of civilization remains lit within Chaldeas, humanity's presence for hundreds of years to come is guaranteed. As long as the lights are lit, it would mean that cities are functioning, people are living, and that civilization is progressing. But---
"

She gestured up to the control room. The staff adjusted the settings, and all the lights on Chaldea went out, leaving the entire orb a dark grey.

"As you can see, six months ago, Chaldeas turned into such a state. Future observations have become a difficult task. The light of civilization which had shone so brightly so far. Most of it has become unobservable to us."

A mutter ran through the assembled Masters.

"Yes. There being no light means that civilization has stopped functioning. This is a matter of utmost secrecy, but you reserve the right to know.

According to our observations, the last observable civilization activity is on July 2016--- Which means that humanity will go extinct in June of 2016. Needless to say, this shouldn't be possible. It is physically impossible for a global extinction to happen in such a short time span. There is no notable economic collapse, nor is there any major seismic activity. Humanity just stopped functioning one day.

For the past 6 months, we have been studying the cause of this anomaly--- The cause of this mass human extinction. If the cause does not lie in the present, then it must be in the past. We have, with the use of Laplace and Trismegistus, analyzed 2000 years into the past and have gathered the required information. We have looked for events which didn't match up with our current history, events that shouldn't have happened on our current Earth. As a result, we have observed some anomalous events taking place here---

Spatial Singularity F. Year 2004 AD, in Fuyuki City, Japan. Here, we discovered an "Unobservable Area" which did not exist as of 2015 in our history. Chaldea labelled this as a potential cause of humanity's eradication, and have carried out Rayshifting experiments with approval by the United Nations. Rayshifting is the process of converting a human into spiritual form, and transferring them into the past to intervene with certain events. Simply put, it is like time travelling into the past, but this can only be done by certain individuals. It is a journey only for Master candidates with superior Magical Circuits.

Well then--- I believe everyone has gotten a gist of the situation. Your mission will be to investigate this Singularity Point F. Traverse into Japan 10 years ago, locate the anomaly which will cause humanity's extinction, and destroy it. This is an unprecedented mission. We do not know what will be waiting on the other side. However, this shouldn't be an issue for all of you who have been chosen from across the globe.

We do not have time to spare. We will begin our Rayshifting experiment two days from now. I believe you have received enough practice in virtual training. The first stage will be carried out by Team A, made up of 8 of the top scorers, which will be sent to Singularity Point F. The subsequent teams have not been deployed yet, but they are made up of Master candidates chosen by Chaldea. Team A has been in operation since a month ago. They can be considered fully-fledged soldiers.

Team A will form the front lines in Singularity Point F. They will take charge of the base camp's construction to ensure the safety of the subsequent teams. Teams B and beyond will monitor their activity while preparing to deploy for stage 2. Let's get started with the individual registration process for the human spiritualization converters, the Klein Coffins. They are bound to one person only, so sharing is impossible. Please utilize your own Coffins carefully.

Since you have responded to the Master candidate recruitment, you are nothing more than soldiers now. Follow orders, and be prepared for battle at all times.  I place all of our hopes on you.
"

As she finished her speech, her iciness seemed to have given way to a sort of blank deadness in her eyes.

After registration was complete, Mashu led them out to show them to their rooms. "I'm... I'm sorry. The Chief is even more high strung than usual. Please forgive her, she's been through a lot."

Once Phillipus and Aaron were out of Olgamarie's earshot, he leaned closer to Aaron and murmured. "I'm sorry for not coming to your defense. It was cowardly of me."

Mari's arms were folded tightly as she chewed on her lower lip. Gimme a fuckin' break, they can't put a smoking room in this joint?

Aaron replied softly as well "I didn't need or expect you to. No worries." he gave him a warm sweet smile. To Mashu, he said, "Don't apologize for her. She isn't the only one to have been through a lot. She can use her experience to either understand others or alienate them, and you don't have anything to do with her choice." he whipped out a cigarette, lit it, and handed it to Mari cause fuck these people. "however, thanks for the sentiment."

"Y-Yes... Anyway, I'll show you your rooms." She led them into the upper hallways to the dormitories. The Tohsaka family all shared a room together, as did Mari and Avalon. Aaron had a room of his own, and Darius, Phillipus, and Artoria each did as well. Mashu made sure to note that they could group up in rooms however they wanted.

As Mari and Avalon opened their door, they found it already occupied.

A bite of food halfway to his mouth, eyes focused on his laptop, he stopped and looked up at them.

"Ah... Hello." Pause. "Ah!" He shot to his feet. "Wh-what are you doing in here?!"

The small animal awoke and sniffed her finger. "Fou?"

"O-Oh, this is your room?" he said nervously. "You must be the new arrivals. Sorry, I... this is where I usually like to hide... from the Chief." He coughed and laughed awkwardly. "I'm sure she'll hang me for skipping her lecture."

He began quickly gathering up his things. "Ah, Romani Archaman. I'm sort of the team medic. Though everyone calls me Dr. Roman for some reason."
