Daichi makes his way to the temple with Medea in tow. It has started raining, but he stoically ignores it. "We should scan for barriers and enchantments before we go in," he says to Medea.

Medea pauses for a moment and rubs her chin. "There's a Bounded Field past the tori gate, but that's all."

"It's very old, I doubt there are any mages living here currently, and the field itself may be a byproduct of an anti-spirit ritual. My capabilities will be reduced, but I've many tricks up my sleeve."

With a wave, her robes shimmer into a flattering kimono, her hair bundled on her head. She comfortably swans into the temple building.

The head priest, an older man that was quickly balding, was lingering around the main shrine when he turned to see the young woman walk in.

"Oh...?" He smiled gently. "Good evening, miss. How can we help you?"

Daichi follows behind, looking businesslike and assistant-ish. He's got lots of practice, since that's basically his job.

"Good evening! I hope you don't mind if I have a look around? It's my first time in Japan!" She wanders, keeping an eye out for any family portraits or other staff members.

Though she saw no family portraits, she could see a couple other priests attending different parts of the temple, about a dozen or so. There was a middle-aged man and a teenager outside that looked like relatives of the head priest.

"Oh, of course!" the priest replied happily. "The temple is open to everyone. I hope you are enjoying the country so far."

"I am! It's such a beautiful place!" She reaches back and pulls Daichi forward, her arms curling around his and holding him close.

"My..." She covers her mouth with her fingertips coquettishly. "Daichi-sama and I have been looking for a place like this, but it's -" She sighs, dropping his arm.

"Oh priest, isn't it so cruel to keep two souls apart!? Neither of our parents approve, and my paperwork keeps getting lost! Isn't that a shame!?" She steps forward and puts a hand on the priest's arm, looking into his eyes. As soon as their gazes meet, he is entranced. Her voice becomes soft yet pointed.

"It would hardly be any trouble to harbor two lovers looking for a little solace."

The priest looked confused at first, but as her magic set in, his eyes glazed over. He gave her a sympathetic smile. "Oh dear, that's quite the sad story. Of course we can spare a room for you two!"

"Right over here!" The priest happily led the pair down the hallway to a set of empty, furnished rooms. He slid open the door for them and bowed. "We should have all the facilities you need. If you ever need anything, we are at your service!"

Once they're alone, Daichi regards Medea. "That was... disturbingly easy. What about the other priests and tenders?"

Medea bows in return before sliding the door closed. She draws a rectangle in the air with both fingers before each wall, then pushes it out. The surface of the walls ripple as they are soundproofed.

"The head priest will spread the news. As long as they notice how adorably shy you are, Gods willing they won't probe you for too much information. I'll take care of them if necessary."

"...I can handle that." Daichi opens his briefcase and begins taking out a few projects he'd been wanting to work on in a place with more mana flow. "So. We're a spell-heavy team. What can we do to a gun to make it even more effective against something with spell resistance?"

A faint smirk. "A gun? You mean the modern day contraption that fires small pieces of metal into mortal bodies with the minimum goal of grievous bodily harm? I think it's at peak performance already."

"That being said, basic firearms are more effective against other mages than Servants. We're summoned as Spirits that are more than human; the strongest of us could survive a bomb strike. The most surefire way to counter resistance is either with the physical, or to cut that resistance away."

"Yes, the physical. Hence, a gun. Wouldn't it be a surprise if one were to be effective against a Servant?" Daichi pauses. "Also, my aim isn't that good. I've spent some time at a range, but accuracy in combat isn't my strong suit."

Daichi and Medea: Staking a Claim Empty Re: Daichi and Medea: Staking a Claim

Post by Damascus Thu Sep 22, 2016 9:54 pm

Some time later, as Daichi and Caster were settling in, they could overhear an argument taking place out in the main hall. If they snuck out and peeked in, they could see the teenager arguing with the head priest.

"I can understand letting her visit, but staying here?" the teenager was saying. "The temple is no place for a woman, especially a foreigner. What are you thinking?"

"That's enough, Issei," the priest admonished him. "This temple is open to all who seek refuge, regardless of who they are or where they come from."

"You don't even know her!" Issei argued. "You talked to her for thirty seconds!" He crossed his arms and glared. "Something seems fishy to me."

"That's enough, Issei!"

The boy jumped, finding his grandfather's harsh tone quite unusual for him. Though still displeased, he bowed and exited the main temple, grumbling to himself.

"Of course, dear." Medea smiled calmly and approached the young man. She bowed formally, her tone sweet and contrite.

"I couldn't help but overhear your discussion with the head priest. I can't imagine that this doesn't seem strange, and I certainly wouldn't ask anyone to accept us so easily. I think you'll find, however, that if you take a moment to think, you'll see that we truly mean no harm here. We are simply seeking a place of refuge." With a hand on his shoulder, she gazed directly into his eyes, letting him fall under her sway immediately.

"You'll be a good boy, won't you?"

Issei cringed automatically when she approached, giving away his intense distrust. He shrunk away when she touched his shoulder, and he was ready to tell her off, but the hypnosis kicked in.

"Ughh..." He seemed to fight it for a few seconds, blinking and twitching, but without any magical talent, he quickly fell under its influence. "Yes. I won't trouble you. You can stay here as long as you want."

She waits for Issei and his grandfather to leave earshot before sighing with relief. "Perhaps for more careless mages, yes, but as long as I concentrate, they shouldn't be a bother. That boy had me worried, though. He would have great potential if he had any propensity for magic."
